R H Wynne Opticians offers the very best types of varifocal, Bifocal and single vision lenses supplied from the world’s leading lens brands & manufacturers.- ESSILOR, HOYA, NICON AND OTHERS
Varifocal lenses, also known as progressive lenses (PAL), have a gradual change in strength from the top of the lens to the bottom, with multiple focal points in between. This allows you to see all distances and focus points through just one lens. They are typically used when you have two prescriptions, one for distance and one for reading. There are pros and cons to using varifocal lenses. On the one hand, they are cosmetically appealing, unlike bifocal lenses, as they do not have a visible segment for reading at the bottom of the lens. However, it may take time for some people to adjust to using varifocal lenses.
Bifocal glasses contains a small reading segment in the lower part of the lens and are used when you have prescriptions for both near and far distances. The segment can be of different shapes, round, C, D and executive.
A photochromic lens is an optical lens that darkens on exposure to light of sufficiently high frequency, most commonly ultraviolet (UV) radiation. In the absence of activating light, the lenses return to their clear state
Polycarbonates are a group of thermoplastic polymers containing carbonate groups in their chemical structures. Polycarbonates used in engineering are strong, tough materials, and some grades are optically transparent. Polycarbonate more impact resistance than regular plastic lenses
Glass prescription lenses offer the best visual acuity of any eyeglass lens. It’s the most scratch resistant lens material and blocks UV light. However, glass lenses are heavy and are prone to cracking, can shatter with impact. Nowadays they are less common than plastic lenses.
Plastic Hi-Index -Lenses which have a high refractive index are used in order to reduce the thickness and weight of lenses of stronger prescription.
